Do you have a signature cookie? You know, the cookie that everyone asks you to make, or asks for the recipe for? I do. These ranger cookies are my go-to cookie, especially around the holidays. They are perfect for neighbor gifts and work parties. The recipe is there for you at the bottom of the post as well as more fun ideas and recipes here.
To get all the ingredients, the kiddos and I made our way over to Target, since we all know that they will have everything we need there. Grab some M&M® Holiday Baking Minis, Quaker Old Fashioned Oats (easily found on an endcap) and some Glad® containers. How adorable is the holiday packaging?
The best part of making cookies is including the kiddos in the baking magic. We put on some Christmas music and our Christmas aprons and get to baking. I distinctly remember doing the same with my grandmother ages ago, making oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. She would always let me lick the beaters!
Creaming together the butter and sugar is always my favorite part of baking. There's something so satisfying about watching those ingredients combine to form the foundation of a cookie.
The kiddos love pouring in the dry ingredients while the mixer is running. Of course I have to watch them like a hawk to make sure they don't put their fingers in there and also to make sure flour doesn't get airborne and cover the kitchen!
The cookie dough gets so thick at this point! Pour in your cereal and your M&M's® Holiday Baking Minis, take off your rings and use your fingers to mix it all together. I won't tell if you lick your fingers after you are done.
At this point the kiddos and I wash our hands and shape the cookie dough into ping pong size balls. The girls like to add extra M&M's® to the top of the cookies, "so you can see them better' (their words, not mine.)
Bake these bad boys for six minutes if you like them gooey in the middle like I do. Or for eight minutes if you like them not-so-gooey but still delicious!
Once your cookies are all made, package them in a Glad® container, tie it up with a sparkly ribbon and gift it to your favorite neighbor. They will love you even more!
