I’ve been seeing a lot of stenciled and painted curtains lately, and I’m thinking about doing this myself for one (or more) of the bedrooms in my house.

It looks pretty easy, and you can customize your curtains to get the exact look to coordinate with your room.

All of these curtains appear to be done with purchased stencils, but I’m sure you could make your own.

The stencils aren’t exactly cheap..the ones I’ve liked run around 60 to 70 dollars. But compared to the price of curtains say from West Elm or Pottery Barn, it might be beneficial to get the stencil. Plus you can get decent, albeit plain, curtains from Ikea for under $40 for two panels.

The stencil above from Olive Leaf Stencils looks almost like herringbone.

I love this design above from Cutting Edge Stencils. (Or maybe it’s the colors.)
If you want a book on stenciling anything, I recommend Lotta Jansdotter Stencils: Decorate Your Walls, Furniture, Fabric, and More. Lotta is an amazing artist and can print on anything. I have Lotta’s Printing Studio
, which is a kit with stencils, sponges and other tools to get you started on printing. I’ve found it very useful.
Supplies you will need: short nap roller, acrylic paint, fabric medium, curtains
So I’m still considering making my own stencil..but I’ll keep looking for stencils I like..just in case.
