I distinctly remember one Thanksgiving Eve when I realized that I did not have a potato masher…Oh the horror! I sprinted across town to multiple Targets to find one…but no luck. The cooking utensil isle looked like it had been ransacked hours before I got there. Never again, I vowed. So this is my little pre-turkey day heads-up to you. Get your supplies early! I rounded up some of the ones I would/might purchase to make the most hyped up meal of the year as easy as pumpkin pie.

Starting with the infamous potato masher. This beauty from Sur la Table is a masher AND a server. That means one less item to wash. It comes in some fashionable colors (including gray) and will only cost you 9 buckaroos. It’s ergonomical and economical. (Is ergonomical even a word? I didn’t think so.)

Please tell me I’m not the only one with this dilemma..How the heck do you get the turkey baster clean? Sure, pull off the rubber squeezy thing at the top and soak it in soapy water or stick it in the dishwasher. But is it really clean? Anytime I’ve stuck it in the dishwasher it always ends up at the bottom, underneath the rack. Ick. I always end up throwing it away. But not this year..this one from OXO comes with a cleaning brush. Brilliant! OXO Good Grips Turkey Baster with Cleaning Brush.

The flavor injector from Williams Sonoma. It looks kind of scary, like syringes from old movies where people are in line getting immunizations to protect them from zombies. Oh, you never saw that movie? Maybe I dreamt it. Anyhoo…I’ve never injected flavor into my turkey, so I’m not sure it’s necessary. But it might protect you from anyone sneaking up on you while your cooking.

These Hot Cooking Bands are like rubber bands for your turkey. No more playing with string to tie up your turkey. These are good for about a 20 pound turkey, and if you need bigger you can loop them together. Dishwasher safe, freezer safe and they can be deep fried. Crazy!

Any other brilliant Thanksgiving innovations I’ve missed? How about any tips or tricks to make the meal prep easier???
