I’ve been in love with olive wreaths and laurel wreaths for a while now. I always see them doodled on chalkboards. Of course the white chalk on black chalkboard is gorgeous and I wanted to replicate that look, but a little less one dimensional. This wreath is so easy to make and is a great statement for a wall.
Supplies ~ baking soda clay, rolling pin, craft knife, sanding block, hot glue gun and sticks, copper wire
Start by rolling out your clay on some waxed paper or the glossy side of some freezer paper, about 1/4 inch thick. Then, with the craft knife, cut out long leaf shapes, some small some bigger. You can use a toothpick to draw vein down the middle if you want.
Set the leaves aside and let dry for 24 hours.
Grab your copper wire (or any other large gauge wire) and form a ring. Use the hot glue gun to glue the ends together. The glue sticks to the copper surprisingly well.
Make sure that your clay leaves are dry. If the edges have any roughness, smooth them down with a sanding block. Then just start gluing the leaves on. You can go all the way around and then start layering them on top of one another, or just layer them from the start.
I wanted the copper wire to show through a bit, but ended up covering it up with the leaves. Then it’s done! Hang it on a nail and enjoy for the holidays!
It’s quite striking on a dark background…
