There is something so limiting about Santa’s naughty or nice list. Who wants to be nice all the time? Can’t we be a little bit naughty? I personally don’t like being put into categories that are hard to live up to. I want to be naughty and nice. Santa needs to create a list for people like me. It’s the same thing with sweet or salty snacks.. Sure sweet snacks are great and salty snacks are wonderful, but thinks about how great the snacks are when they are both sweet and salty. Take these Chocolate Wavy Lays for example, they have the mouth-watering, salty crunch that we all know and love in a potato chip, then they are covered in delicious, smooth and sweet chocolate. They are certain to satisfy your naughty and nice, I mean sweet and salty tastebuds.
There are three flavors to choose from, Milk Chocolate, Dark Chocolate and new this year is the Milk Chocolate Covered with Almond Bits. You can find all three flavors at Target for a limited time.
Not only are the Chocolate Wavy Lays delicious, they make a really fun hostess gift. Especially when you package them in a decorated chip bowl that you painted yourself. While you are at Target, grab a white ceramic bowl and some oil-based paint pens. Even if you think you have no artistic skills, trust me, if you can write letters, you can do this.
Supplies~
- ceramic chip bowl
- oil-based paint pens
- rubbing alcohol
- masking tape
Practice what you are going to write on paper. If you don’t feel too creative, find a font or two that you like and print out your saying. Practice copying it with your handwriting as best as you can. Wash and dry your ceramic bowl. Take a lint-free towel and rubbing alcohol and really clean off the ceramic surface, making it free of oils. Use masking or washi tape to mark off where you want your lettering to go.
Writing the first letter is a little unnerving, but don’t worry, any mistakes can be wiped off with a little rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab, or scratched off with your finger nail. Just make sure you clean up any smudges, because it will show when you bake the dish.
I like to keep the dish fun but non-holiday, so it can be used all year round. But it’s your design, make it what you want!
Once your masterpiece is complete , place it into a cold oven and turn it on until 350ºF. Once the oven is at 350, leave the piece in for 30 minutes to set the paint. Be careful, it will be very hot.
I have heard that the oil-based paint pens handle dishwashing well, but I handwash all the handpainted pieces, just to be on the safe side.
Once your bowl is baked and cooled, stuff it full of packages of Chocolate Wavy Lays! Add a big fluffy bow, and voila, you have the perfect gift to give to the hostess of your next holiday party! Of course, if you are feeling more naughty than nice, make yourself a latte mug, like I did, and keep the Wavy Chocolate Lays all to yourself. No one has to know!
