Start your day with a delicious mandarin orange creamsicle protein shake. It’s easy to make and tastes like a dessert!
After that chocolate buttermilk layer cake yesterday, I decided to fill the next few days with protein, fiber and exercise. You know, because it’s all about balance. Protein shakes are perfect for busy moms like myself because they are easy to make and don’t require utencils to consume, they give you plenty of energy and keep you going until the next mealtime and they taste delicious. It is easy to come up with a variety of recipes that taste great.

One of my favorite protein powder flavors is this vanilla ice cream. Seriously, it’s delish and it’s easy to add fruit to so you can make it your own. One of the tastiest combos I’ve made so far is with mandarin oranges and a teaspoon of vanilla extract. Yup, and a little ice and milk or water and you’ve got a mandarin dreamsicle protein shake! I always use water to save on calories, but I’m sure it would be creamy and fantastic with low-fat milk or almond milk.
At home I just throw all the ingredients in the blender and drink. If you can plan it out ahead of time, it’s even better if you peel the oranges and freeze them the night before. Then you can skip or reduce the amount of ice you need to blend. Frozen fruit is so good. I love to make these protein shakes at work too. I have been known to keep an immersion blender in my lunch bag. It’s compact and takes 20 seconds to make your protein shake frothy.
