Start out your day out with a tropical twist with the strawberry piña colada protein shake recipe. It tastes just like the real thing, and is packed with protein and fresh fruits.
Piña coladas are the epitome of tropical foo-foo drinks and boy are they delicious. I’m not talking about the kind made from a mixer at the store, I’m talking about freshly blended, real coconut cream, fresh pineapple and rum. It’s an amazing frosty, boozy goodness, that’s even better if you throw in some strawberries. Of course, it’s is a gazillion calories and definitely not a breakfast drink. Unless you’re on vacation or it’s Saturday.
This protein shake is like a strawberry piña colada without the calories and alcohol. In order to save on the calories and fat, I substituted coconut extract for the coconut cream. Of course, you can use unsweetened coconut milk in place of water or almond milk for extra coconut flavor. The pineapple is left over from the Grilled Pineapple Margaritas from a couple weeks back. I didn’t want to overdose on pineapple, so I just cut the fresh pineapple into spears and froze them.

Grab your high-speed blender, half a cup of ice, almond milk or coconut milk, coconut extract, vanilla ice cream protein powder, frozen pineapple and strawberries and get blending. If you need that authentic flavor you can add a splash of rum extract too. Or just add real rum, I won’t tell.
