Have a popping 4th of July with this sparkling candy cocktail. The blue and red drinks mixed with sparkling wine, vodka and candy will add to the holiday fun!
Hey you! How is summer treating you? I’m sitting here in Way-Too-Hot Scottsdale, Arizona wishing I was somewhere cooler. But there is fun to be had around the corner. 4th of July! Barbecue, drinks, fireworks!! Yay! Well in order to get you in the mood, I made you a drink. Of course, this drink is perfect for the sipping around the pool or to serve at the holiday party. It’s sweet and sassy at the same time. Kind of like you!
I turned the bar cart turned into a sweet patriotic wonderland. It was decorated with a stars and stripes pennant banner, silver stars, flags, blue and shimmer white gumballs in plastic flared cylinders with two different kinds of red, white and blue lollys!
They were all sent from Oriental Trading. You need to check out all their fun patriotic items!
This drink is explosive! Well, not really, but it sure is popping! Why? Because the glass is rimmed with Pop Rocks! With each sip you’ll get a fun burst of popping candy on your tongue. Combine that with the sparkling wine, and you have quite an exciting mouthful!
First things first, your going to need a plastic drinking cup. You don’t want any broken glass anywhere. But skip the boring red party cups. These clear plastic stemless wine glasses are perfect for this cocktail. To rim the glasses, you will want to use a sticky liquid, either a simple syrup (click to this post for a recipe) or you can use the red syrup used for this drink. Pour a little into a shallow bowl. Take your blue Pop Rocks and pour those into a second shallow bowl. Dip the rim of the glass into the syrup and let the excess drip back into the bowl. Then dip the rim of the glass into the Pop Rocks so that the candy sticks to the rim. You might have to use your fingers a little bit to get the candy to stick to the rim. Once done, set the glasses aside to dry a little.
When you are ready to serve your drinks, pour one/half ounce grenadine or other flavored syrup into the glass, you don’t need much. Then fill the glass 2/3 up with a chilled sparkling wine. Lastly, add a little chilled vodka for that extra punch. Or you can skip the flavored syrup and add a stick or rock candy, it gets sweeter as the candy slowly dissolves. Just look at how pretty those colors are!
Grab a drink, a little candy and have fun watching the fireworks!
Great recipe Jessa and thanks for sharing at Fiesta Friday….be sure to link to the Fiesta in your posts if you’re keen for them to be considered as a feature post next week!
