Who’s ready for Thanksgiving? I know I am. I’m always ready for a delicious feast! If you are going to a friend or loved one’s home then you should probably bring a hostess gift, you know to show your gratitude.

This DIY tea towel makes a fun gift for your Friendsgiving or Thanksgiving host or hostess, along with a bottle of wine! Stencil Revolution was kind enough to send me this stencil to try, and I love it! It’s great quality and I always enjoya clever play on words!

Supplies~

  • Flour sack towel
  • Let’s Get Basted Stencil (8.5 x 11)
  • DecoArt SoSoft Black fabric paint
  • Fabric Paint Transparent Medium
  • Foam Pouncer

Make sure you wash the flour sack towel before painting it and dry it without any fabric softener. I tend to let it air dry after washing and then iron them so it is flat. Decide where you want the design to be on the towel and tape it down using masking tape or washi tape. I like to slide a piece of paper under the towel to protect my work surface.

Create this clever tea towel for Thanksgiving using a stencil and some fabric paint!I like to use DecoArt SoSoft Transparent Medium on fabrics before the fabric paint, since it helps the paint go on the fabric a little smoother. I just pounced it on the stencil.

Create this clever tea towel for Thanksgiving using a stencil and some fabric paint!Once that was done, I washed off my pouncer, squeezed out any water and then used it to apply the black fabric paint. I like to do two light coats of paint. With this towel, I wanted a kind of newsprint type look, so I didn’t fully saturate the black areas.

Create this clever tea towel for Thanksgiving using a stencil and some fabric paint!I always hold my breath when removing the stencil…but it turned out perfect! Make sure to wash the stencil immediately so that you can use it again. I use dish soap and water and gently rub the paint off. Then I go over it with a baby wipe to make sure I get all the residual paint off.
