I am knee deep in last minute Christmas gift making tonight. I work best under pressure. I am making these sparkly reindeer tea towels and sparkly star tea towels as Christmas gifts for the girls’ teachers. Oh and they need them by morning. I am currently taking a break, because I am waiting for an Amazon delivery of more tea towels to arrive. The app says it will arrive before 8 pm. Fingers crossed that it does. In the mean time I am going to drink a Naughty Belgian Cookie Coffee cocktail, hoping that the caffeine in the coffee will keep me awake and the little bit of alcohol will keep me from getting grumpy.
I am in love this reindeer die from Spellbinders. It’s called Oh, Deer! and it’s a contour steel rule die, so you can use it to cut through multiple sheets of paper or felt or craft metal or all kinds of good stuff. I chose black and silver glitter for the tea towels, since it goes with my über glam black Christmas tree!
Supplies~
- Spellbinders Platinum 6 inch or 8.5 inch machine
- Oh, Deer! Contour Steel Rule Die
- Die D Lites Candy Cane Holiday 2017 Etched Dies
- Die D Lites Spaced Out Etched Dies
- Die D Lites Prims Etched Dies
- Silver Glitter Heat Transfer Vinyl
- Black Heat Transfer Vinyl
- Flour Sack Towels
- Iron
- Washi Tape
Instructions~
Wash the flour sack towels and dry without fabric softener. For each reindeer tea towel, use the Oh, Deer! die to cut out two silver glitter heat transfer vinyl (HTV) reindeers and one black HTV reindeer. Use the bow die from Candy Cane Holiday 2017 dies and cut it out in the silver glitter HTV.
Lie a towel on a firm surface and lay the flour sack towel atop of that. Go ahead and place the first deer where you want it. Tape it down with a little washi tape to make sure it doesn’t move. Place another flour sack towel on top and iron on the hottest setting, without steam. Use a lot of pressure with the hot iron and lightly lift up to move the iron.
Once the vinyl is affixed, peel off the clear transfer medium from the vinyl while the vinyl is still warm. Repeat with the other reindeer. Position the glitter bow on the black vinyl reindeer and tape in place. Iron on top of the black vinyl. Turn the towel over and iron the back side to make sure the vinyl has adhered.
For the stars tea towel, I used the left over silver glitter vinyl from the reindeer dies, since I didn’t want to waste any of the HTV. I used the fun shapes stars from the Spaced Out and Prims die sets. Iron the stars on in the same fashion as above.
Gift the towels as a set for the holidays!
