Hello Christmas

I decided that this week is the official start of the holiday season here at Chez Sparklepants. Why now you ask?  For one, it is the first day we had to turn on the heater!! Awesome right? Okay, well I think so. The second reason is that the December issue of Martha Stewart Living arrived. If that doesn’t get you excited for Christmas, then what will? (Despite the love/hate relationship between Martha and I have. Well, maybe not between us, ’cause I’m pretty sure she loves me.) This year I am starting the Christmas preparations early so that I don’t spend the season stressing out. I started decorating for Christmas last week. Just a little something here and there.

I’ll tell you a secret. I have a love affair with Ikea.  I mean I really geek out when I get the chance to go to Ikea.  I think it’s because of a combination of three things: my obsession with all things Scandinavian, modern/unique design, and affordability. I can buy lots of crap stuff there and not worry about breaking the bank.  Well when you mix Christmas and Ikea stuff I start to hyperventilate my ADD kicks into high gear and I can’t speak normally. Really.

Snow trees

Here is what I started on..definitely not finished, but I had to share the tree light thingy. Isn’t it gorgeous? It’s made of layers of cardstock trees and is lighted with LEDs underneath.

And then there is this:

Ikea lamp

Isn’t it great? It’s reminisent of those fiber optic flower thingys that were cool back in the 80s. Come on..you know you loved them. I put this lamp together, then realized that I couldn’t put it down without taking it apart. Brilliant, I know.  So Mr. Sparklepants hung it up on some random place on the ceiling with his mindpower. Yup, mindpower.  It will be centered over the dining table soon, and will be amazing for holiday meals!

Of course there were other fun items that will be used for crafts and wrapping and whatnot.

I seriously doubt Martha shops at Ikea.

In other holiday news, have y’all checked out the online magazine Gifted, that Ez of Creature Comforts created? It’s over 200 pages of holiday greatness!

Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten about Thanksgiving.. More on that later.

Hi, I have a quick question, I was wondering when and which Ikeas you bought the fiber optic flower ceiling lamp? I have been looking for it for a long time. They came out couple years ago during the holidays season and haven’t seen it since. I attached my email above, please let me know 🙂

Thank you for the cool blog!

      Hi James-
I bought it just a couple of weeks ago at the Ikea in Tempe, AZ. They have it on their website here: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80198182

There is a space on that page where you can check the availability at various locations. I love it! Good luck!
