As a birthday present to myself I bought a Silhouette machine. It’s really cool, it cuts paper and vinyl, similar to a Cricut, but better since it doesn’t need cartridges. It just connects to my computer. I can make letters using any font in my computer and tons of different designs using what Silhouette has in their store, or if I feel really creative I can design my own. But designing my own is a bit too techie for me (at least right now), so I just use what’s in their store.
I had these two cheapo glass canisters that I bought at Ikea (of course) prior to the holidays, that needed some dressing up. I wanted a retro looking, Orla Kiely-esque type look, so I found this vine in the Silhouette store and adjusted the measurements so that the vines would go evenly around the jar. Then I had the machine cut it into some white adhesive vinyl.
I then used transfer paper and carefully applied the vinyl vines.
For the little canister, I found a cute retro tree design and cut out the tree in white vinyl. I used some silver metallic shelf paper that I had for the berries. The shelf paper was a little thick, and I worried that my machine wouldn’t be able to handle it, but it worked beautifully.
There ya go, my first real project with my Silhouette! I love this little truc!
They look amazing, very impressive for your first go!
