felt flower garland

I finally got the mirror finished that I wrote about here. I love the blue, and it looks perfect in the Sparkletots’ room. The room still needed a bit more color since the walls are so white, so I made a garland out of felt flowers to cheer the mirror up a bit.

There are a tons of different ways to make flowers out of felt. Here’s how I made these ones…

Supplies: felt, scissors, needle, thread, ribbon or twine & crochet hook

Cut out five or six flower shapes, depending on how full you want the flower. You can make a stencil, trace and cut so they are all the same. I did mine freehand, I don’t think you can tell either way. One of the shapes you are going to use as your base. Take another shape and fold it into quarters- like so..

Place it on your base, so the point of the fold is in the center of the base. Add a couple of stitches near the point to hold it in place.

Gently open up the folded piece and add a couple of stitches to the part of the piece that is directly against the base.

Step one is done! Add the other three (0r four) cutouts in the same manner, going around the base.

When it’s done it will look like this.

You can add a center if you’d like. I cut out a small red circle, folded it into thirds and stitched it on to the center of my flower.

To make the garland, the flowers can be stitched on to whatever material you’d like. You can use ribbon, twine, a long, narrow strip of fabric… I used some white twine, which I crocheted into a chain. Click here for a how-t0 video for making a crochet chain stitch.

The room looks so happy!
