So I finally jumped on the subscription box bandwagon. Ok that’s a lie, I’ve subscribed to a couple boxes before but I wasn’t exactly thrilled with what I got. One box went out of business and a ton of subscribers lost money and the other was a food themed box, which was fun but food is a very personal thing and a lot of the products didn’t get eaten, so it seemed like a waste.
This post contains affiliate links, meaning if you click on a link and buy something I may receive a small percentage of the sale at no cost to you.
But I’m really trying to branch out of my comfort zone with makeup, fitness products and jewelry, so subscription boxes seem like a way to do this. FabFitFun is a quarterly subscription box that includes items related to fitness, beauty and fun stuff.
Well I was perusing the internet one day and saw an ad for a code for 50% off the FabFitFun Welcome box (now expired). The box is usually $50 and FabFitFun claims the contents of the box value at over $300. From my unofficial research, it appears that most of the items in the Welcome Box have been included in previous boxes. I guess that’s why it’s for first time subscribers. Not complaining though.
Here’s what was included in my Welcome Box and my thoughts on them.
FabFitFun x CosmoBody Jump Rope – This jump rope was a huge incentive to buying this box. I’ve been trying to think up ways to add something different to my workouts. Jumping rope is fun and it really wears you out after a little bit. I was a little apprehensive because the only place I have to really do this is in my driveway and I didn’t want to look like a dork to my neighbors. But then while walking my dogs the other day I saw a trio (yes three) people jumping rope in the street. So apparently I’m not the only dork. Anyhow, I read somewhere that if you step in the middle of the jump rope the ends should reach your armpits to be adequate length. I’m 5’10” and it definitely reaches my arm pits, so it might be a little long for shorter folks.
Gorge Daily Spray – I really like this leave-in conditioner. It smells great and moisturizes my hair without making in greasy.
Zoya nail polish in Avril – Zoya makes high-quality vegan-friendly nail polish. I’ve purchased this brand in the past and liked it. The color is a light pink which always looks classy with my skin tone.
Frends Earbuds – These are okay. They are a cute design and very trendy with the rose gold squares. I can see myself using them while sitting on BART or at the airport. To bad it’s not too often that I do either of those things. I don’t think they would work out too well on a long sweaty run, since they just don’t seem to fit great in my ears. Passport to Beauty Tibetan Goji Berry Eye Serum – Yes! I have an obsession with eye creams. I think it has to do with my sensitive eyes and I’m worried that I squint all the time and at some point I will have wrinkles that make me look like I’m permanently squinting. Whew! Glad that’s out. Well this eye serum is awesome. I’ve been using it for a week now and I feel like the skin around my eyes is softer.
Wren 14kt Gold-Dipped and Black Sapphire Necklace – I’m really not a fan of wearing things around my neck. Actually, I’m not much of a jewelry wearer at all. But I’m trying, and this horseshoe shaped necklace with the black sapphire is really cute. I received quite a few compliments on it and managed to forget that I was even wearing it. The necklace is just the right length and is very lightweight. I will definitely wear it again.
Organic Valley Organic Balance Protein Shake – So this protein shake was a sponsored item in the FFF box. Basically, I believe this means that the value isn’t included in the final value of the box. Anyhow, this protein shake is good. I like to have a protein shake in my work bag for those nights that I’m just to busy to get a lunch. The flavor is dark chocolate and the one bottle serving contains 190 calories, 3.5g of fat, 24g carbs and 16g protein. Ideally, I prefer my protein shakes to contain less carbs, but this works in a pinch.
Shoptiques – The box included a $25 gift card to Shoptiques, which appears to be similar to an online mall of boutiques from around the country. I spent HOURS looking through all the stuff availiable and decided on S’well water bottle. I used the gift card, and a 10% coupon code Shoptiques offered for signing up. Shipping was a little steep at $9.05, but all in all I managed to get a cool S’well bottle for $15.55, and they typically sell on Amazon for $55-75 dollars. Score!
So was it worth it? Heck yeah it was! Even without the original discount I think it’s worth the money. Plus it’s fun to get surprises in the mail. Want to get $10 off your first FabFitFun box? Then click here!
