framing alternatives

After my post about using washi tape to make my Godzilla print fit in the frame, I started thinking about other ways to “frame” pictures. I have quite a few prints that I’ve ordered off of Etsy that have “not the standard” measurements. But not everything has to be in a traditional frame, right? So I searched the internet for some alternative framing ideas..

The Apartment Therapy photo above uses pants hangers to hang posters. Vintage ones would be awesome, but the 99 cent ones from Ikea work too.

How about using clothes pins, affixed to the wall with Command strips, to hang the art? You could paint the clothes pin or decoupage it with pretty scrapbook paper.

Clipboards! Not only do they frame the art, they make switching things up a breeze.

I really like the idea of using binder clips to hang poster, it’s a little bit unexpected, doesn’t interfere much with the art, and again can be dressed up with some paint, paper or washi tape.

And then, of course there are the Snap Hang magnetic frames, that I mentioned here. I’m pretty much in love with these things.

Update: I emailed Traci at Magnetic Grain, because the site did not list retailers, and I really want a Snap Hang or two. She responded quickly and said there are various retailers across the country, but no online retailers, so they opened up an Etsy shop, where you can buy some!  Yay!!!   http://www.etsy.com/shop/magneticgrain. Plus, if you need more than what’s available there, just message them, and they will add more. I love good customer service!

Do you have any creative ways of hanging art, prints, or photographs? I’d love to hear about them!

What great framing ideas! I just decided to re-frame some paintings tonight, and I might go with the clipboard idea. Love it.
