DIY a handlettered pouch to carry your tea on the go!

One of my favorite times of the day is tea time. Even though my mornings often start with coffee, there is something so relaxing about making and sipping on a hot cup of tea later in the day. On the nights that I work as a nurse at the hospital, 3 am is my tea time. It gets me through the last two hours of my shift and is the proverbial “calm after the storm” when we have a busy night in the ER. I even have a special tumbler that I drink my tea out of at work. It just doesn’t feel right taking my tea time with paper cup.

Did you know that January is Hot Tea Month? Even more of an excused to pour yourself a cup! Bigelow is one of my favorite brands of tea. I was introduced to Constant Comment by my mother as a teenager, and the distinct fragrance of the tea always reminds me of her. It is still my tea flavor of choice, although there are so many fantastic Bigelow teas. I love the Vanilla Chai and the Cozy Chamomile as well. Do you love Bigelow teas as much as I do? If you do then you should enter the Ultimate Relaxation Getaway Sweepstakes at the end of this post!

DIY a handlettered pouch to carry your tea on the go!

I decorated a special pouch, just to take my tea to work with me. I got tired of digging around my large work bag, hoping to find an extra bag of tea. And tea is so great that it deserves it’s own personal pouch. All you need is fabric markers and a plain canvas pouch. (I love this pouch, it almost looks like a tea cup!) I searched the internet to find a tea quote that fits me.

Would you like an adventure now, or shall we have our tea first?

~ Peter Pan

Of course tea first.

On paper, I sketched how I wanted the quote to lay out and then I practiced the lettering.

Write your quote on to the canvas.  Take it slowly and write your letters like you are drawing them instead of writing them. Since the quotation I chose has to do with fun and adventure, I tweaked my lettering to appear more bouncy and flirty, meaning making the loops in letters a little bigger and having the letters in the word not sit on a straight line, but are a little uneven. The words adventure and tea are written slightly bigger, since they are the words to focus on in the quote. Go over the lettering again with the pen, making the down strokes slightly wider than the upstrokes of each letter. You may want to go over the writing with the pen a third time, just to make sure the ink coverage is good.

At first I wanted to add a lot of colors and doodles to my tea pouch, but I fell in love with the simplicity of the black and white quotation. There are just so many possibilities!

How do you #teaproudly?

That is the best quote about tea I have ever seen! And what a brilliant idea to bring your tea with you in a pouch. I can totally see it getting lost in my purse. You’e handwriting is gorgeous, by the way! #client
