Creating Memories for the Kids’ First Nutcracker Ballet

Taking kids to see their first Nutcracker Ballet during the holiday season is something they will always cherish. Here are a couple ways to make it memorable.

Creating Memories for Kids First Nutcracker Ballet

I went to see the Nutcracker many times during the Christmas season as a child and I’m so excited to take the older girls to see the ballet for the first time this year. We are going see the Nutcracker performed by the Phoenix Ballet. I had the opportunity to see a sneak peak yesterday and I can’t express how magical it was to see these ballerinas close up. From their costumes to their make up to the way their bodies move is just absolutely exquisite.

Today I was able to go see a sneak peak of The Nutcracker by the Phoenix Ballet and it was amazing! These ballerinas are exquisite and it was such an experience watching them dance from just a few feet away. Of course this sneak peak was during the day, so the big kids were at school and couldn’t go. The baby went, and she loved it. It seemed like the ballerinas loved her too!

In order to get the girls excited and ready for their big night at the ballet, we ordered a book on the story of the Nutcracker. Being a ballet, with no words, I figured it might be helpful for them to know the story ahead of time.

The girls picked out the dresses they plan on wearing to the ballet. I took them to the Children’s Place and let them choose their own. They are going to look so cute.

To drum up a little more excitement, we will be doing a craft where the girls can paint their own nutcrackers. I found unpainted nutcrackers at the craft store. While there I load up on paint, brushes, glitter and some small bottle brush trees, mini sisal wreaths and mini Santa hats so they can decorate their nutcrackers to their liking.

I’m hoping this becomes a family tradition for us. I would love to have a collection of hand-painted Nutcrackers from each child to display over the years! I hope they will always remember their first Nutcracker Ballet!

If you are in Phoenix, then I have a treat for you! You can get adult tickets for 50% off the Nutcracker by the Phoenix Ballet (with the exception of Level 4) using the code SUGARPLUM while checking out!
