I heard that Santa really likes you to leave out homemade doughnuts on Christmas Eve. I’ve also heard that he likes beer. Who really knows which one of those is true. I do know that everyone seems to like these baked doughnuts, especially fresh from the oven.

Before you start with the baked doughnuts aren’t real doughnuts nonsense, I’m going to tell you that yes, these are like a cake doughnut, not light and fried like doughnuts from the doughnut shop. I can’t eat fried doughnuts. I want to. I love the idea, but it makes me feel gross. So I don’t. But these, these sour cream baked doughnuts I could eat all day long. Yep.

The best part is that you can make them from start to finish in 30 minutes! That’s perfect for Christmas day or really any day.
Oh and if you substitute eggnog for the milk in the recipe, it’s amazing!

Sour Cream Doughnuts with Vanilla Glaze
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract (or 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract and 1/4 teaspoon Princess emulsion)
- 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 and 2/3 cups flour
Vanilla Glaze
- 1 and 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon butter, melted
- 1 tablespoon corn syrup
- 1 - 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- various sprinkles
Instructions
- Heat oven to 425F. Lightly grease two doughnut pans.
- Cream together butter and sugar, add the remaining wet ingredients and beat until well mixed.
- Stir in dry ingredients and continue to mix until well combined.
- Dough will be thick. Spoon approximately 1/4 cup into each doughnut place.
- Bake for 10 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let cool.
- Mix all the ingredients for the vanilla glaze together in a small bowl.
- Once the doughnuts are slightly cooled, spread the glaze over the top and sprinkle immediately with festive sprinkles or jimmies.
- Serve immediately.
